More About Our Elementary School Teachers

Ms. Shannon Conaway

Kindergarten Teacher /

Teaching children is something I have wanted to do since I was very young. Catholic education has always been an important part of my life. I moved to Waunakee after attending St. Mary’s Catholic School in Sandusky, Ohio. I graduated from Waunakee High School and Edgewood College.

I am married to Bob Hineline. We have two daughters. Colleen is finishing her Doctorate of Physical Therapist from the College of St. Scholastica. Kiera is at Edgewood College finishing her degree in the Business program. Both graduated from Saint John School!

In my free time, I love to read, work on 1000 piece puzzles, go for long walks, travel, and watch baseball. I am an avid Cleveland Fan!

This year is my 29th year as part of the Saint John School family. I absolutely love teaching kindergarten! I love to help children grow academically, socially, as well as spiritually. I feel truly blessed to be called to teach at Saint John School and be a part of this school family. Saint John School is a wonderful place where we can celebrate and pass on the Catholic faith to future generations!

1st Grade Assistant /

I'm married 23 years to Mark, and we have 4 children, ages 16, 14, 12, and 10. All of our children have attended St. John School, and this fall we have kids in 5th and 7th grades at SJS, plus 9th and 11th grades at St. Ambrose Academy. In recent years, I worked as a special needs assistant in Lodi and as a 4K and 1st grade assistant at SJS. This year I am so excited about the opportunity to help out in the mornings in preschool and 1st grade at SJS, as I love being around children. Our family enjoys hiking, camping, sailing, and kayaking.

All I ever wanted to be was a mom and a teacher--and I'm thrilled to be both! I graduated from UW-Madison in 1983 with a degree in Elementary Education. My happy place is the classroom. I love teaching about the sacraments in second grade. It's a very special year. My husband, Jeff, and I have four wonderful adult children. We have been married for 40 years! When I'm not at school, I enjoy making cards, scrap booking, and reading.

I am originally from Kaukauna, Wisconsin-- if you have ever seen Kaukauna cheese spread at the grocery store, that’s from my hometown! I attended Edgewood College where I earned a degree in Elementary Education with minors in Religious Studies and Teaching English Language Learners. When I discerned a teaching career in college, I knew right away that I wanted to work at a Catholic school, and here I am! I'm so happy to be a part of the Saint John's community!

3rd Grade Teacher  /

Upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I stayed and taught in the urban Milwaukee area for 3 years at an elementary school for the gifted and talented.  Marriage brought me back to Madison and I've spent the last 4 years teaching 8th graders math and science.  I'm thrilled to embark on a new journey teaching at Saint John's this year!  This is the place I built my strongest relationships and I can't wait to help others do the same.  Learning is a lifelong process and I look forward to sharing my love for education.

Miss Ellen Peterson

3rd Grade Teacher  /

My name is Miss Ellen Peterson, and I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade at Saint John's. I graduated from the University of Minnesota, and am a current graduate student at Edgewood College. I have student taught 4th grade at Huegel Elementary School and began teaching at Saint Johns in 2021. This year I am so excited to continue building a classroom of my own. A fun fact about me is that I used to be a student at Saint John's. I am so excited to be coming back to the school to help another group of students grow in their relationship with God.

Mr. Peter Schaubroeck

4th Grade Teacher  /

I feel very blessed to be a teacher at this school. I've worked in the business sector for several years, and then became a stay-at-home dad raising three wonderful boys before I received my teaching degree at Edgewood College. I've spent my short 5 years as a teacher here at St.John's and loving every minute of it. With a Catholic education myself, I understand the importance of empowering our students to strengthen their foundation of our Catholic beliefs to take on the challenges they will face throughout life.
