Crusaders Athlete’s Prayer

Lord, help us to play this game
with the best that is in us.
Help us to enjoy it - win or lose.
Help us to cooperate with one another because
we can only win if we work together.
Help us to challenge our opponents
to give their best, too.
Help us to stick to the rules because victory
without sportsmanship is hollow.
Help us to accept the decisions of the officials
whether or not we agree with them.
And finally, Lord,
help us to meet victory or defeat
with the knowledge that what we put into
the game is far more important
than the final score. Amen.

Athletics at Saint John School begin in 5th grade and are offered through 8th grade. We participate in the MAISL league and focus on fundamentals, building teamwork and leadership skills. We invite all skill levels to join our teams and encourage all students to try a sport at Saint John School! There are no tryouts, anyone that wants to play makes the team. There are playing time rules in the MAISL league, so each athlete will play in every contest. Our teams are coached by volunteer parents and are sometimes mixed grade depending on interest level. Practices vary depending on coach and gym availability, but are usually held twice a week after school or in the early evening. Matches/games run on Friday nights, Saturdays during the day, and Sunday afternoons. There are generally between one and three events in a weekend.

Our current opportunities are:

  • Fall - late August through early November: Girls Volleyball

  • Winter - late November through early March: Boys and Girls Basketball

  • Spring - late March through early May: Boys Volleyball

During each season, we offer a variety of home games. We invite parents to get involved by helping run our concession stand and monitor our gym. Other games are held around the Madison area, almost always within 30 minutes of Waunakee.
